AN appeal to save the life of an eight-months-old baby boy from Greenford - and to encourage potential blood stem cell donors to register - was launched last week.

Aarav Chand is being treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Chronic Granulomatous Disorder and needs a matching donor to save his life, That donor is likely to be someone who matches his Indian heritage.

His parents launched the appeal in partnership with Delete Blood Cancer UK after Aarav was diagnosed with the disorder shortly after his birth.

They said of their first child: “He is very social and always has a big smile for the doctors and nurses treating him.”

They said he was taking comfort from his cuddly toys, including his favourite elephant.

CGD affects about four to six in every million people in the UK and leaves sufferers unable to battle against bacterial or fungal infections.

There has been increasing success in treating it with blood stem cell donations.

Delete Blood Cancer spokesman Deirdra Taylor said: “It is no exaggeration to say you could be the person who saves Aarav’s life, or the life of one of the thousands of people seeking a blood stem cell donor.”
