EALING borough’s familiar plastic bottle tree has returned this year to Southall.

It will be displayed over the festive period and aims to remind residents about the importance of recycling.

The unique Christmas tree, made with hundreds of recyclable plastic bottles and standing six metres high was designed by artist Ashley Phillips as part of the council’s 50% by 2020 recycling campaign.

This year, the tree has a new look and will feature pink and purple bottles, the colours of the Southall Big Plan project.

The tree will be one of the main attractions at Southall Christmas Market this coming Sunday.

Council leader Julian Bell said: “Southall will benefit from numerous improvements over the coming years, including the arrival of Crossrail, due in 2018.

“The creation of Southall Square has allowed for events, such as the Southall Monthly Market, to take place and acts as the perfect location for the Christmas tree this year.”
