THE £440,000 makeover of Moorfields Eye Centre at Ealing Hospital is complete.
The new unit includes six examination rooms, two injection rooms for diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), waiting area, clerical and administration space and a new disabled toilet.
The eye unit offers a range of services, including outpatient clinics and surgical theatres for treating cataracts, glaucoma, general ophthalmology, paediatrics, strabismus, corneal and external diseases, medical retina and multiple other conditions.
Clinical service director Robin Hamilton said: “It means patients from the Ealing community and surrounding area can be treated much closer to home and not have to travel into our City Road hospital in central London.
“The expansion in size of our Moorfields eye centre at Ealing means we can treat more people locally.” The project, which took 12 weeks to complete, has enabled Moorfields to increase the physical size of this busy unit, which dealt with 31,795 patients last year.
Staff moved into the new enlarged clinic in the autumn, having maintained the service throughout the rebuilding process.
Moorfields at Ealing Hospital is one of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS trust’s busiest eye centres.
