PUPILS of Acton High Secondary School in Gunnersbury Lane have received £1,000 to launch a community project to develop garden spaces in the town.

The grant was awarded as part of City Pitch – a joint initiative between the Mayor’s Fund for London and the Santander Foundation – in which young people from across London pitch for a share of funds.

Twelve groups of young people faced the panel of judges this year, including Acton High and Allenby Primary School in Southall.

As part of its project, Acton High has set up a group of 'eco warriors' who actively promote environment issues within the school. They are planning a new school garden which will also benefit the wider community.
