FORGET Band Aid, it’s hearing aids that can make a difference for deaf people in developing countries.

Specsavers Hearing Centre in Ealing Broadway is collecting old hearing aids for Sound Seekers, a charity which works for the hard of hearing around the world.

Devices will be reconditioned and re-programmed and it is hoped they will make a difference in developing countries.

Mark Edgar, Ealing Specsavers hear care director, says: “Living in the UK, we are extremely lucky to have access to such robust hearing healthcare programmes.

“Overseas charities like Sound Seekers are providing vital care to those who are not as fortunate.

“We’re calling on Ealing residents to help us support their efforts.”

Stuart Riddick, of Sound Seekers, adds: “Without hearing and communicating, it's hard to go to school, thrive in a community, or hold down a job.

“Your hearing aids could enable a child to stay in school or a hard-working adult to stay in a job.”

The World Health Organisation estimates there are 360 million deaf people, 80 per cent of whom live in the developing world.
