REMEMBRANCE services at war memorials all over Ealing this Sunday will mark the 100th year anniversary of the outbreak of World War One.

Ealing Council leader Julian Bell will attend a service in Greenford, where the Royal British Legion will be marching from their headquarters on Oldfield Lane to the war memorial on Greenford Broadway for a service starting at 11am.

The Mayor , Cllr Tej Ram Bagha, will attend the service at Ealing War Memorial in front of Pitzhanger Manor for 11am.

Cllr Bell said: “The remembrance services give everyone an opportunity to stop and reflect on the people who fought on behalf of this country.

“When you read about people who sacrificed their lives and hear about the ordeals they went through, it brings the reality of those events to the front of your mind.

“They are not just names on a wall somewhere. Those people are embedded in the history of this country and shall be honoured and remembered with respect.”

On Armistice Day (Tuesday, November 11), the Lord-Lieutenant for Greater London, Sir David Brewer, will plant a tree in Walpole Park in commemoration of Ealing’s late Deputy Lieutenant, Robert Leader.

The day will also be marked by a two-minute silence on the steps of Ealing Town Hall at 11am.
