PARENTS in Acton and Ealing who are concerned about shared parental leave are invited to have their say at a public meeting.

The family-friendly event will be at the National Childbirth Trust offices in Oldham Terrace, Acton, on November 27 and will be addressed by Consumer Affairs Minister Jo Swinson.

From April next year, working parents will be able to share the care and time off work in the first year of their child’s life.

Shared parental leave is part of the Government’s commitment to support working families and give parents more choice around how they balance their work and caring commitments.

The minister will answer questions about the changes and discuss other initiatives, including the right to request flexible working and increased access to childcare and school meals.

Joe Swinson said: “As a working mother, I know only too well how hard it can be to balance family and work commitments.

“Shared parental leave will help to create more choice for families and I am looking forward to talking with parents about how this could help them.”

Every year, the NCT supports millions of parents across the UK, offering expert information and emotional support.

Elizabeth Duff, senior policy adviser at the NCT, said the Q&A session would help the Government better understand the challenges of balancing work and family.

The event takes place from 11.30am-12.30pm. To reserve a place, e-mail press@nct.org.uk. Babies and toddlers are welcome.
