SONY Award winning presenter and music journalist Kylie Olsson turned an Acton student’s classroom into a star-studded event when she visited DLD College London to share her experiences of the music industry.

Kylie revealed the hard graft behind the glamour.

A-level student Karan Sitlani, 17, of Whellock Road, met Kylie, who has interviewed some of the biggest names in the industry, such as Aerosmith and Black Sabbath, for Sky Arts, Classic Rock Magazine, ITV and the BBC. She now hosts her own weekly radio show.

With his classmates, Karan, who studies media and music technology, was able to put his questions to Kylie while she gave a workshop focused on the different career options in music journalism and how to get a foot in the door.

Karan said: “Kylie showed me what it would be like to work in the music industry. It let me have a taste of the real world of getting involved with big music names for interviews and also album reviews.

“I learned that you have to really work hard before going into the interviewing room.

“She showed us an interview where the band wasn’t co-operating. However, instead of shying away, the interviewer handled what could have been an awkward situation in a professional manner and managed to turn it into an entertaining one.”
