A WOMAN who suffers from spina bifida completed a 26-mile trek across London to raise more than £400 for charity.
Sita Patel, from Northolt, took just over ten hours to complete the journey in her arm-powered wheelchair and was joined by her assistant, the fund-raising manager for Shine, Tom Scott.
Sita's journey began in Stratford and took her past various landmarks, including Regent’s Park, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, London Eye and St Paul’s Cathedral.
The finish line was at The Cutty Sark, Greenwich.
She said: “I wanted to support Shine because I want others in my position to benefit from the wonderful opportunities I have had.’
Spina bifida is a congenital disorder caused by a fault in the development of the spinal cord and surrounding bones, which causes a gap in the spine.
Shine supports sufferers from it and hydrocephalus, which affects 1 in 1,000 babies and results from the build up of fluid around the brain.
Sita is still accepting donations for her challenge on her JustGiving page: :www.justgiving.com/SitaPatelShine
