NORTH Ealing Primary School in Pitshanger Lane is the first to take part in the Big Shock campaign, run by the Sudden Adult Death Trust, which aims to make defibrillators available in all schools across the country.

London Ambulance Service will help train school staff in how to use the device in an emergency.

Sudden adult cardiac death is due to undiagnosed heart defects. A 2006 study estimated there may be up to 500 such cases in the UK each year.

Early resuscitation, even by public bystanders, is known to dramatically increase survival chances.

“All schools should have defibrillators on the premises to help save lives,” said Anne Jolly, Founder of SADS UK.
