THE hunt for missing Hanwell schoolgirl Alice Gross featured on BBC1 TV programme Crimewatch last night in an effort to widen the appeal.

Alice, 14, disappeared on August 28 from her home and was last seen on the Grand Union Canal towpath near Brentford.

“The last two weeks have been absolutely heatbreaking,” Alice’s mother, Rosalind Hodgkiss, told viewers. “Please Alice, if you’re out there, come home.”

Alice is described as 5ft 2in tall and of slim build with shoulder-length, light brown hair.

The BBC1 programme showed an interactive map of the route Alice took on the day of her disappearance, as well as CCTV footage showing her in locations such as Uxbridge Road and Brentford Lock.

Police are also looking to question a man who went missing from his Ealing home seven days after Alice’s disappearance.

Arnis Zalkalns, 41, was reported missing on September 5 after he failed to show up for work the day before.

He is not, however, being viewed as a suspect. His route to work was similar to that taken by Alice.

Police found a rucksack belonging to Alice on September 2 between Hanwell Bridge and the canal, but the bag did not contain her iPhone which they say is vital to the case.

It is a white iPhone 4S with a distinctive cracked rear case that Alice had decorated with marker pen.”

Anyone with information on Alice can anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
