TWO weeks since the disappearance of Hanwell schoolgirl Alice Gross, yellow ribbons are featuring all around Ealing, in anticipation of a happy resolution to the worrying story.
As part of a huge community effort to trace 14-year-old Alice, supporters hope this show of unity will continue to raise awareness of the incident, which has slipped off national TV and radio bulletins in recent days.
The Brentside High School pupil left home on August 28 and was caught on CCTV later that day near Trumpers Way Canal Bridge in Hanwell. Her bag has been found but there are no further clues as to where she could be.
Police divers have been searching the canal for a week.
Two men were questioned over her disappearance, but a 51-year-old was released with no further action and another, aged 25, was released on police bail.
Thousands of posters were distributed around the borough and beyond by hundreds of volunteers, while others have used social media to highlight the Gross family’s appeal for Alice to return.
Her mother, Rosalind Hodgkiss, has written on the FindAlice Facebook page: “We have been really touched by the astonishing number of yellow ribbons for Alice. Thank you so much for all your support.”
