EALING’S parks have won the highest number of Green Flags in its history.

Thirteen of the prestigious awards have been given this year, almost doubling the number of Green Flag parks in the borough from last year.

Assessors scrutinised the borough’s green spaces and gave Green Flags to the re-landscaped Walpole Park, along with other new winners, including Lammas Park, Three Bridges Park and Southall Park.

Parks retaining the flags include Acton Park, Northala Fields, Bramley Road Open Space and Southall Manor House Grounds.

The parks were judged against eight criteria, including how clean and well maintained they are, and how actively involved the community is.

London in Bloom also visited the borough and took part in a guided tour of Ealing to see how its green spaces measured against the rest of the capital in the large city category.

Judges inspected Manor House Grounds, Hanger Hill Park and Wood and Fox Wood, which were entered individually in the park of the year, small park/garden of the year, conservation and small conservation area of the year categories, respectively.

London in Bloom is designed to promote gardening, horticulture and bio-diversity across the city.

It is one of 17 regional campaigns, with overall category winners going on to compete in the Britain in Bloom competition.

The park ranger team will find out in August whether Ealing parks have won any of the four London in Bloom awards.
