A LONDON-based youth project is hosting a women’s only event in Ealing on May 1 and 2.

The SOS Project, which helps young people who have made negative lifestyle choices to escape them safely, is holding its Celebrating Women event at the Catalyst Housing offices, Uxbridge Road, from 9.30am to 3pm.

Those attending can take part in a number of sessions, labelled either as ‘Savoury’ or ‘Sweet’.

‘Savoury’ sessions will be hosted by an array of agencies, providing advice on money management, debts, tenancies, young people and the law, health checks and CV writing.

Motivational speakers will be sharing their experiences through the day, and the SOS team will be on hand to give parents advice about negative lifestyle choices.

Alongside these, women can choose a ‘sweet’ session – a pampering treatment of their choice.

Ladies can choose from manicures, massages, learning pilates or boxercise, having their make-up done or being snapped by a professional photographer.

On the second day, there will also be a fashion show by acclaimed designer Voija.

Conceived in 2006, the SOS Project operates under the umbrella of St Giles Trust, which works with ex-offenders and disadvantaged people.

The project is spearheaded by Junior Smart, a reformed ex-offender and social entrepreneur.

Mr Smart explained he wanted to do something different for the women of Ealing.

“Women are always told what they ‘can’t’ or ‘shouldn’t’ do and we fail to recognise what they do,” he said.

“We’ll be giving them the opportunity to get pampered but more importantly we will be celebrating their achievements, motivating them, empowering them and bringing together a network, so they can overcome whatever obstacles they are facing and achieve whatever goals they set for themselves.”
