A REWARDS scheme for eco-friendly Ealing residents is now in operation after a launch event at Pitzhanger Manor this week.

Residents can earn redeemable points by signing up to the Ealing Greenredeem Residents Rewards scheme.

Marks & Spencer, Haven Holidays and Toni & Guy vouchers are among the redeemable awards available to eco-friendly households.

Households can earn an average of £70 per year in exclusive rewards which can be redeemed at more than 100 local and national partners. Members will receive 10 points each week for reporting their recycling efforts and have the potential to gain a further monthly bonus, based on the amount recycled in the borough.

Residents can also choose to donate their points to worthy community projects.

In total, there are eight community projects to support, including Hanwell Carnival, Perivale Primary School and the Ealing Transition Initiative.

The Greenredeem Residents Rewards scheme in Ealing was introduced following a Whitehall grant of £1.13m.

In partnership with Ealing Council, the programme is designed to support the council’s efforts to achieve a 50% reduction of waste sent to landfill by 2020.

The proportion of collected household waste recycled or composted in Ealing was 41 per cent in 2012/2013..

The greenest London borough was Bexley at 54 per cent, while the least eco-friendly was Lewisham at 20 per cent.

Greenredeem also operates in Windsor & Maidenhead, Halton, Lambeth and Wokingham.
