JOURNALIST and Ealing resident Yasmin Alibhai-Brown will give a public lecture on food and memory at the University of West London next Wednesday (Feb 26).

It is free to attend from 6pm at the University of West London’s Ealing campus in St Mary’s Road.

A Ugandan-born British journalist, Yasmin Alibhai-Brown is a regular columnist with The Independent and the Evening Standard and tackles issues on immigration, diversity and multi-culturalism.

She will discuss the ways in which food is a central marker of our identity that links our past, present and future.

She notes that, during Ramadan, there is a growing trend among some young Muslims to have a predawn breakfast of a ‘full English’ of beef sausages and bacon.

This, she says, is a clear indication of integration, as much as white Britons being addicted to curries.

She will also read passages from her book The Settler’s Cookbook, a food memoir on East African Asians, which was named book of the week on BBC Radio 4.
