Southall, Ealing air cadets honoured with Petchey Awards

Ealing Times: Winner: Harry Kendall Winner: Harry Kendall

MORE than 100 young people from the London and Middlesex Wings of the Air Training Corps were honoured on Sunday.

Each winner, aged 11-25, received a Jack Petchey Achievement Award, a framed certificate and a cheque for £200 after being nominated by their peers and leaders.

Among those honoured included Harry Kendall, of the Ealing and Brentford Squadron, who has successfully mentored three junior cadet intakes.

Harry wanted the grant award spent on starting up a squadron band that will perform at publicevents and parades. He was able to start the project with the purchase of a bass drum.

Sikander Jalal, of the Southall Squadron, was described as someone who had developed into a natural leader with a bright future. This was illustrated in the squadron’s success at both Wing and Region drill competitions.

He has asked for his grant award to be used to buy a squadron banner, to allow it to take part in banner competitions.

The Jack Petchey Foundation was established in 1999 to recognise positive contributions young people make to society and to support them in achieving their potential. It has invested £85m in 2,000 youth initiatives across London and Essex.
