PRESTIGIOUS awards were given to 95 young people from 15 Ealing secondary schools.

The award winners, aged 11-25, were honoured with Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards at Greenford Assembly Hall.

Founder Jack Petchey CBE, 88, said: “I am passionate about our awards scheme which enables young people to be recognised, valued and rewarded for their achievements and positive contributions to society.”

Gabriella Bishop, 15, from Elthorne Park High School, won the award for a second time, for her dedication to football at Brighton FC Academy. Her award grant was spent on football equipment.

The winners were nominated by leaders and peers for a variety of achievements.

Chris Monponbanua, 13, of Cardinal Wiseman School, received an award for his performance and contribution to rugby.

He received an award and grant for a new Year 8 rugby kit.

The JPF has awarded £439,000 to youth groups in Ealing since funding started in 2005.

Rahul Mehta, 14, was nominated by teachers and students for his work as a cyber mentor.

Greenford High School’s JPF co-ordinator, Lisa Thomas, said Rahul had helped students affected by cyber bullying.

Ealing North MP Steve Pound said: “I feel like I have been drinking champagne all evening, but, instead of a hangover, I have a real sense of pride and achievement of so many young people.”

JPF has invested £85m to 2,000 youth initiatives across London and Essex.
