Jailed for life: pair who murdered Southall garage owner
TWO men received life sentences for murder on Wednesday for dousing a man in petrol and setting him alight in Southall.
Jakub Ostrowski, 37, of Isleworth, and Mariusz Florowski, 38, of Greenford, were sentenced at the Old Bailey to a minimum of 30 years for the murder of Benedykt Nowak and attempted murder of his brother, Przemyslaw Nowak.
They will not be able to be sent home to serve their sentence in their native Poland until 2033.
Elaine Cousins, senior crown prosecutor, said: “This was a truly horrific crime. Benedykt Nowak was badly beaten, doused with petrol and burned with a handheld propane torch until the petrol ignited and he was engulfed in flames.
“He suffered severe burns to 75 per cent of his body and died two days later in hospital.
“Benedykt’s brother was also doused in petrol and badly beaten, resulting in a punctured lung."
The unprovoked attack in February occurred in the brothers’ garage business on the Dilloway Industrial Estate in Southall, which was completely destroyed by fire as a result.
Neighbours had to be evacuated as firemen fought the blaze.
“This was an extremely cruel and violent crime and the offenders have now been brought to justice," she said.
