ORGANISERS of the Ealing Half Marathon have confirmed Mount Carmel Catholic Primary School as the winner of the 2017 Schools Challenge.

Mount Carmel, in Little Ealing Lane, raised more than any other school at the 2017 event.

The school was presented with a cheque for £250 this week, which will go towards new sports kit and playground equipment.

The Challenge encourages schools to enter their own teams into the Ealing Half Marathon to raise money for themselves.

The Schools Challenge will be returning for the 2018 event which takes place on Sunday, September 30, and entries are open now.

The Ealing Half Marathon team are able to help schools get started with practical training sessions and advice. With ten months until race day, there is plenty of time for parents, governors and teachers of all abilities to get race fit.

The 13.1-mile course takes runners on closed roads through Central Ealing, Montpelier, Pitshanger, West Ealing, Hanwell and St Stephens before crossing the finish line in Lammas Park.

The Ealing Mini Mile and the Family Mile will take place on Saturday, September 29, giving young runners up to 16 years a chance to enjoy the thrill of a large sporting event.

Clare Walsh, head of Mount Carmel, said: “This event has strengthened links between governors, parents and staff. It was an enormous task and the success from every runner is commendable. Their achievement will benefit the children to continue with their healthy lifestyles.

“More than 80 children took part in the Ealing Mini Mile, with three of them winning their age categories. The whole school came alive with running and it came from the passion and dedication from our parents. We are very grateful to each of them.”

There are discounted entries for next year’s race until January 31, costing £38 (affiliated) or £40 (unaffiliated).
