PUPILS from Greenford and Uxbridge are among young people nominated for the seventh Young Muslim Writers Awards 2017.

The awards were initially set up as a stand-alone competition for those aged 5-16 but have since nurtured the writing talents of thousands of children through creative writing workshops and the annual competition.

A total of 45 young writers, whose poetry, short stories and articles were the stand-out entries, have been short-listed.

They include Hussain Maki, of Greenford, for The Hole In The Mountain in the Key Stage 4 Short Story (ages 14-16), and Amiera Sharif, of Uxbridge, in Key Stage 3 Journalism (ages 11-14), for A Woman's Worth.

The winners will be announced on December 9.
