SOUTHALL’S youngest first aiders are celebrating the relaunch of St John Ambulance’s Badger programme.

The Badger Sett is a group of children aged between seven and 10 and the group is looking for more children to join them.

The charity’s youngest volunteers learn a range of important life skills, including how to save lives using first aid, in a fun and engaging way.

As they progress towards their bronze, silver and Super Badger Awards, the children collect certificates and badges to wear on their uniforms.

The group meets weekly (during term time) on a Friday evening for around an hour and a half.

Unit Manager Joyce Worthington said: “Learning first aid is an important thing at any time of life, but teaching children equips them to be the difference between a life lost and a life saved from a young age.

“It also builds their confidence and teaches them new skills.”

The Badger programme recently celebrated its 30th birthday and has been revamped to make it more appealing to children, including a new look for its mascot, Bertie Badger.
