CHANGES to the way the first state funded Hindu School in Britain accepts pupils have been given a nod of approval by the council.

The Krishna-Avanti Primary School, in William Ellis Playing Fields, Edgware, had said it was going to set aside ten places out of 30 for children chosen by the people who run it, but halved the number on the request of Harrow Council.

The councillors who requested the change gave it their blessing at a meeting yesterday.

Work to build the school has begun and it is expected to finish by September 2009.

Teaching will start this autumn, with lessons at Little Stanmore First and Middle School, in St Davids Drive, Edgware.
