Islamists host peace conference

The Ahmaddiya Muslim Association (AMA) is holding its first peace conference in Abbots Langley tomorrow between 3pm and 5pm.

The focus of the event is "Islam and a peaceful coexistence", to be held at Henderson Hall in the High Street.

The AMA was established in 1889 by Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) in Qadian, a remote village, in the Punjab region of India.

The AMA was created under "Divine guidance", with the objective to rejuvenate Islamic moral and spiritual values.

The organisation says it encourages interfaith dialogue, defends Islam and strives to correct misunderstandings about Islam in the West.

A spokesman said: "We advocate peace, tolerance, love and understanding among followers of different faiths."

The AMA has established itself in 190 countries, reaching all four corners of the world. Among the speakers at the conference in Abbots Langley will be Ata Mujeeb Rashid, an eminent scholar, and Imam of the London Mosque.
