A GOVERNMENT advisory body has said the centre of Ealing is the "wrong location" for a proposed 40-storey tower..

English Heritage, which advises the government on historic buildings, has advised Ealing Council to reject proposals put forward by Glenkerrin for the redevelopment of the existing Arcadia Centre in the town centre.

The report said English Heritage "strongly objects to the proposal, and the impact upon the character or appearance of the conservation areas and the wider historic environment".

It also states: "Given the lack of precedent and the established suburban character, it is considered that this is the wrong location for a development of this scale."

Concerns are also raised about the tall buildings setting an "out of context precedent for similar scale development", and the proposals being out of context with other buildings in the area, including the Town Hall.

The report comes in the wake of a similar consultation document from the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment in November which supported the Irish firm's plans for a tall building on the site.
