Update: Campbell admits Terminal 5 assault

7:45am Friday 20th June 2008

Streatham-born supermodel Naomi Campbell has admitted assaulting two police officers at Heathrow Airport.

The 38-year-old pleaded guilty to a total of six charges when she appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court, west London.

She launched the attack during a row over luggage at Heathrow's recently opened Terminal 5.

She had been due to fly with British Airways to Los Angeles on April 3 but instead was removed from the aircraft and arrested.

The model was charged with three counts of assaulting a constable, one count of disorderly conduct likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, and two counts of using threatening, abusive words or behaviour to cabin crew. She assaulted one of the officers twice.

Fiery-tempered Campbell could be jailed for up to six months and/or fined up to £5,000 for each count of assault.

Before the hearing, the model's lawyer, Simon Nicholls, said she was "bitterly disappointed" to be charged but respected the prosecutors' decision.

The Heathrow row erupted when she was told that one of her bags was missing. She attacked the police officers while she was being removed in handcuffs from the plane.

At the time her spokeswoman blamed the incident on the chaos that had engulfed the new terminal at Heathrow.

The supermodel was among thousands of passengers who lost their luggage during the disastrous opening two weeks of the new T5 building.
