THE Conservative Party leader has attacked the Government over its proposals for the expansion of Heathrow Airport.
David Cameron has accused Gordon Brown of being driven by "political calculation, not conviction" in the Evening Standard yesterday (Monday).
He also claimed that Mr Brown has exaggerated economic benefits and betrayed the environment.
Writing in the Evening Standard, Mr Cameron said: "With Brown it's always about the politics, not the policy.
"The Prime Minister has noticed that since I became leader of the Conservative Party, I have pushed the environment higher up the political agenda.
"I think the whole country can agree that the most important priority for Heathrow is making it better, not bigger."
John Stewart, chairman of anti-expansion group HACAN, said: "We welcome David Cameron's criticism of the Government's proposals to expand Heathrow.
"It is particularly significant that he is questioning the economic case for expansion.
"The noose is tightening round the Government's neck, slowly draining their proposals of any purpose. They should abandon them."
