THE successful first staging of the Ealing Half Marathon raised more than £140,000, exceeding its target.

The money was collected through for numerous charities, including Epilepsy Action – the official charity for the event – and the figure is set to rise.

At least 100 people ran for Epilepsy Action and so far £20,000 has been raised.

Philippa Cartwright, the charity’s fund-raising events manager, said: “It was great to see so many Epilepsy Action running vests among the crowds of runners. We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in the event for all their support.”

The money will go towards continuing services like the advice and information helpline and specialist nurse scheme, as well as to raise awareness of epilepsy.

Race director Kelvin Walker said: “It seems like the Ealing Half Marathon runners have done a fantastic job with their fund-raising activities and I am proud of everyone who ran the 13.1 miles for a charity close to their heart.”
