A NEW housing scheme, for adults in need of care and support, has officially opened in Southall.

Turnberry Court on the Golf Links Estate is run by Notting Hill Housing Trust, on behalf of Ealing Council, and is mostly for older people, including those with dementia, but there are also places for younger dementia sufferers.

All of the spaces are reserved for Ealing Council placements.

The block includes 38 one-bedroom flats and two two-bedroom flats with a self-contained lounge, dining room, kitchen and shower room, so residents can retain their independence.

All are wheelchair accessible and fitted with an intercom in case of emergencies.

There are also communal and social areas, including a shop, hairdresser, computer room, dining room and two lounges - one leading out on to landscaped gardens.

Hot midday meals are served to residents and there is 24-hour care on site.

Resident Ron Carslake, 83, said: “I was really impressed when I saw the flat. I didn’t realise that places like this existed in Ealing.

"My wife died earlier this year and I’m finding things difficult, but the people here are really helpful while still encouraging me to be as independent as I can be.”
