AS doubts over the future of Ealing Hospital grow, people are invited to a public meeting to discuss the impact of the potential closure of its A&E department.

Last month’s announcement that four A&E departments in West London will close, with the department at Ealing one of those at risk, has sparked a number of campaigns across the borough.

Oliver New, president of Ealing Trade Union Council, said: “If North West London NHS bosses get away with closing Ealing Accident and Emergency, it will be a disaster for local people. Other departments will follow and the hospital will be undermined.

“People should not believe their spin – this is nothing more than a plan to cut vital services to save money.”

The public meeting will be led by John Lister, a leading health service expert and Director of London Health Emergency, who has analysed the plans put forward by the NHS and written a report titled Under The Knife.

Other planned speakers at the meeting, organised by Ealing Trades Union Council, include John McDonnell, MP for Hayes and Harlington, and Dot Gibson, secretary of the National Pensioners Convention.

The meeting, titled Hands Off Our Hospitals!, will take place on Tuesday at 7.30 in Ealing Town Hall.
