Jubilee dig: Newnham children and their teacher, Jenny Vass
HILLINGDON youngsters helped plant 70 trees donated by the Woodland Trust in Bessingby Park yesterday.
The trees were planted as part of the trust's Jubilee Woods project, which aims to plant six million trees across the country by the end of 2012, to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Hazel, silver birch, rowan and wild cherry were planted by 17 children from Newnham Junior School, to create an area that will be known as the Jubilee Copse.
The children were joined by teacher Jenny Vass, along with volunteers and Carolyn Morrissey from the Friends of Bessingby and Cavendish Parks.
The children helped dig holes and plant the saplings, and their teacher did the honours by planting the royal oak sapling.
