EALING residents are being asked for their views on plans to improve the junction with the highest number of pedestrian-related accidents in the borough. The controversial Lido junction of Northfield Avenue, Uxbridge Road, Drayton Green Road and Broadway has eight times the borough average of collisions involving pedestrians.

After an 18-month negotiation with Transport for London, improvements to the pedestrian crossing have been approved.

There will be ‘green man’ crossings on all arms of the junction and improved signs, road markings and changes to waiting and loading restrictions, to smooth traffic. The introduction of an all-green phase for pedestrians will mean drivers on Drayton Green Road may experience longer queuing and journey times.

The start of this consultation coincides with Road Safety Week, in which 18 Ealing schools have been accredited by TfL for their school travel plans.

Conservative councillors are angry at what they see as the limited scope of an online consultation.

They want a consultation point in Waitrose car park and for it to be advertised more prominently.

The online consultation will remain open until Friday, 16 December. Visit: http://www2.ealing.gov.uk/services/council/consultations/current_consultations/lido_junction/
