A commemorative plaque for Fred Perry has been unveiled at Brentham Tennis Club in Ealing .
Fred Perry, the last British man to win Wimbledon in 1936, was a member of the club from the age of nine.
Club members wore period costume and played with wooden tennis rackets to recreate an Edwardian tennis tournament to commemorate the occasion.
Junior members took part in a mini tournament and fun games on the hard courts.
The LTA’s Chief Executive, Roger Draper, who unveiled the plaque, said: “Clubs like this are the heart of our sport’s efforts to encourage more people to play tennis.
“It’s an absolute honour to have officially unveiled a plaque to such a sporting legend.”
The club, currently celebrating its centenary year, offers sporting and social facilities to over 1000 members.
Colin Hearn, Brentham’s club secretary, said: “The event was a huge success with over 200 members attending the unveiling of the plaque to honour Britain’s greatest male tennis player.”
