An Ealing firefighter is running for charities close to his heart in the London Marathon on April 17.

Lee Coleman, 31, of Chestnut Avenue, Brentford, is a Northolt Station fireman, one of 50 London Fire Brigade’s members who will be tackling the 26.2mile run.

Raising money for the Shooting Star Hospice and Leukaemia Care, Lee said: “I chose the hospice because they looked after a friend’s child, Joshua, when he was terminally ill, so I’m running in his memory.”

“And I chose Leukaemia Care because I lost my uncle to the illness five years ago,” he added.

Not only running for charity, the Brigade’s runners shall be wearing vests raising awareness on the importance of life saving smoke alarms.

Lee said: “If this vital fire safety information helps to save the life of one person, all the hard work is more than worth it.”

Lee has worked at Northolt Station for two years and this is his first ever marathon.

A keen football player and coach, he aims to do the run in less than four hours.

So far Lee has raised £170 for each charity.
