EALING Green Party members joined other peace campaigners for a rally outside Downing Street on Friday, July 28, calling for an end to war in Lebanon.
Protesters handed a letter to Tony Blair, insisting he demand an immediate ceasefire in the two-week conflict.
Party member Sarah Edwards, of Rusthall Avenue, Ealing, who attended the rally, said: "We condemn the violence on all sides and call for an end to the military actions, which are indiscriminately killing hundreds of civilians.
"The scale of Israel's bombardment is turning the conflict into a humanitarian disaster and is hugely damaging to the prospects for a long-term peace.
"Britain's foreign policy has reached a new low," she added. "The UK and US are very much alone in not calling for an immediate ceasefire. What is worse, we are supplying arms to Israel and are acting as a staging post for American planes carrying bombs to Israel."
The rally was organised by the Stop the War Coalition (which includes the Green Party) and CND.
On Monday, London Mayor Ken Livingstone added his voice in support of a ceasefire, calling for the "largest possible" turnout for a national demonstration in London on Saturday.
He said: "The horror of the events in Cana confirms that there must be a full, immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza.
"Both the Israeli soldiers held by the Palestinians and Hizbollah and the Palestinian and Lebanese prisoners held by Israel must be released and, in line with UN resolutions, Israel must withdraw to its 1967 borders."
