Student feels the heat as gang target open windows

A UNIVERSITY student had a narrow escape after she woke to find three men trying to break into her room at 4am.

The incident happened in Wyresdale Crescent, Perivale, when three men in their 20s attempted to break into the front bedroom of the house after the window was left open because of the heat on Wednesday, July 19.

The 22-year-old student, who had come home for the holidays woke after hearing noises. After drawing the curtains of her bedroom, she saw three men standing on the window sill trying to break in to her bedroom.

Her mother also woke after hearing a disturbance and saw the men trying to get in.

After being disturbed the men then ran off to a parked black 4x4 Jeep before speeding off.

It is believed to be the first of two attempted robberies by the gang in the space of half an hour.

At 4.30am in Francis Road, Perivale, the men were seen by a neighbour trying to break into a house through an open bay window.

They were again unsuccessful, but police said it was clear the attempted break-ins were linked.

Ealing Borough Police spokesman Chris Mullally said: "For the first victim it could have been an awful lot worse. Because of the nature of the location we believe we have four or five suspects all in their 20s looking for opportunities to break into someone's premises.

"These are opportunistic crimes and people must be aware of the dangers of leaving windows unsecured, even in this heat."
