MP hears of human rights abuse at Amnesty meeting

11:37am Monday 17th October 2005

AMNESTY International held a party on Monday to mark Protect The Human Week and to celebrate the charity's many successes.

Stephen Pound, MP for Ealing North and a supporter of Amnesty International, was one of the guest speakers at the event which took place in Ealing Town Hall, and talked about his work with the all-party parliamentary group that opposes the death penalty.

People at the evening also heard from Amy Turner, from Amnesty International's head office, who talked about Vietnam and the case of Nguyen Khac Toan, a Vietnamese cyber dissident and prisoner of conscience. Nguyen Khac Toan's campaign is one of many that Amnesty International Ealing Group is involved in.
