A LIBRARY has reopened it doors to the public after having a £47,000 makeover.

Greenford Library in Oldfield Lane South, Greenford, opened on Tuesday, July 26, after being closed for a month to undergo major refurbishments.

Fiona McCarthy, a spokesman for Ealing Council, said: "We have been getting a really good response from the library users to the refurbishments. The library is far less cramped than it used to be."

The building now has a wider entrance, new carpets, a new jade-green colour scheme and new signs on the walls.

One library worker said: "Its got a very nice atmosphere and a very calm feeling."

There are also more books in Asian languages and a range of novels by black writers.

The library also has a new display unit for its DVDs and is due to get three new flat-screen computers in the next few weeks.

Cllr Jasbir Anand, cabinet member for Leisure, Sport and Culture, said: "Libraries are at the heart of local communities, and the refurbishment at Greenford Library is the start of a rolling programme of imp-rovements, bringing Ealing's libraries into the twenty first century.

"Greenford Library is now a much more modern, inviting and customer-friendly place to visit."

The childrens area has also been updated, with the addition of new bean bags, tables and chairs and display boards.
