THE clubhouse of a sports club has been completely destroyed in a fire.

More than 50 firefighters spent three hours tackling the blaze at the Victorian Pavilion Clubhouse at the Trailfinders Sports Club in Vallis Way, West Ealing, which started at about 3pm on Monday.

Fire crews were called to the sports club after passers-by saw flames coming from the single storey building. Roads were closed and traffic was disrupted as crews tried to bring the fire under control.

A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said: "We are still looking at the cause of the fire but the building is about 85 per cent destroyed. It was a single-storey building which had changing rooms, a committee room and a hall.

"The building was empty at the time of the fire and there are no reported injuries."

Fire crews were still at the scene for most of Tuesday to make the area safe and carry out a full investigation.

The popular sports club which is home to a number of affiliated clubs is still open for business despite the loss of the original clubhouse.

A spokesman for Trailfinders said: "The new Centenary clubhouse, which is the main clubhouse, is still open as usual. The original pavilion is closed as it is badly damaged.

"It is very unfortunate that this has happened and we are still waiting for the findings of the investigation but we estimate the damage will run into thousands."

The Centenary clubhouse also has a bar, hall and changing rooms.
