Police join forces with RAF over the airwaves to ensure security at base

11:08am Sunday 20th March 2005

SECURITY around the perimeter of RAF Northolt will be improved thanks to a new police radio.

The radio was handed over by police to RAF Northolt on Friday as part of a partnership agreement between the RAF and South Ruislip Safer Neighbourhoods team.

Sergeant Neil Anderson from safer neighbourhoods, told the Times: "This partnership will increase safety and security of both the base and the residents who live in the roads surrounding the base.

"The radio will help patrolling RAF police officers pass information and intelligence on to police at Uxbridge."

He added: "It will help to improve the flow of information between RAF and police about what is taking place around the perimeter of the base, and is all part of Security Watch."

The Security Watch scheme is about to be relaunched by police and the RAF and will increase partnership working between the two. It will also increase the involvement of the local community in the safety of RAF Northolt and the surrounding roads. Sgt Anderson said: "It is also an extra uniformed reassurance in the area surrounding the base."

Flight Lieutenant Guy Johnston, from RAF Northolt, said: "This further underlines our close working relationship and the progress we are making with our Security Watch initiative."
