COMMUTERS in Ealing can breathe a sigh of relief now that strike action has been averted on the Tube.
A series of 48-hour strikes planned by unions was called off on Thursday last week after members of both Aslef and the Rail Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) accepted a new pay offer from London Underground bosses.
The offer, said by sources to amount to a 5.7 per cent pay rise for passenger drivers, follows months of dispute between the two sides over the £1,600 pay gap which exists between the drivers of passenger and engineering Tube trains.
Tube boss Paul Godier said: "We are delighted with the progress we have made with both RMT and Aslef, which means that our customers no longer face strike action."
The strikes were planned for March 5 and 26.
