COMMUTERS should hear a decision on a plan that could transform their journeys into work in early Spring.
The West London Transit will now be measured against competing schemes by Ken Livingstone before he decides which scheme to green light.
The four options are The West London Transit (WLT), the Cross River Transit, the East London Romford and Barking Transit and a scheme covering all of Greenwich.
Consultation on the WLT indicated that 86 per cent of responses in Ealing supported the development of a transit that would run from Shepherd's Bush to Uxbridge through Acton, Ealing, Hanwell and Southall.
The results also showed that the most popular option was for a tram system, other options being a trolleybus and an articulated bus.
Cllr Ray Puddifoot, leader of Hillingdon Council, said: "I'm not sure if it will have an effect on jobs but it will ease the problems caused by traffic on the Uxbridge Road. I can see the tram option working which would have a positive effect on pollution as well as congestion but we would still need to allow for cars on the main throughway."
