COUNCIL Tax in Ealing is to rise by just over seven per cent this year, to £885 for a typical Band D property.
The 7.47 per cent hike, which comes on top of an increase last year of 8.9 per cent, was approved at a Full Council meeting on Tuesday night.
There was, however, relief all round that the figure was not even higher. The £885 includes the Greater London Authority precept, the part of the bill that funds the GLA, which was originally proposed by Ken Livingstone as an increase of 34.5 per cent.
However, following pressure from local authorities, including Ealing, the Mayor returned with a proposal of 15.2 per cent, or £23. The new Council Tax remains within the Labour group's commitment not to raise it by more than 10 per cent in any year.
However, Tory leader Cllr Ian Green, whose party voted against the budget, said: "Council Tax is going up but services are getting worse."
