SHOPPERS have the chance to suggest improvements for local town centres as a public consultation gets underway.

West Ealing and Ealing Broadway are the subjects of consultation which began on Monday and ends on March 30.

Ealing's town centres suffered in 2001. Ealing Broadway was devastated by a car bomb planted by terrorists in August and West Ealing suffered from the lack of a 'big name' store following the closure of Marks & Spencer in May.

The consultation and a strategy summary will be posted to 20,000 residents randomly selected from the electoral register. All roads that may be affected by future plans and all businesses in the town centre will also be sent a copy of the summary. Copies will also be available in libraries, from Ealing Town Hall or alternatively, can be downloaded from the Ealing Council website www.ealing.gov.uk.

Public exhibitions are planned in March to give others the chance to express an opinion.

Ealing Centre Partnership chief executive Sarah Porter said: "It's crucial that as many local people and businesses as possible take part."
