Tottenham schizophrenic jailed for life over father killing

A TOTTENHAM schizophrenic who stabbed a "doting father" to death four months after walking free over another brutal attack has been jailed for life.

Colin Welsh, 42, who has been held at a mental health hospital for more than a year, was fined £200 in March 2008 for beating a fellow student at St Andrews University so badly he needed facial reconstruction surgery.

He was expelled from the prestigious Scottish university but was left free to go on to kill father-of-one Elliot Guy by stabbing him in the neck in July 2008, the Old Bailey heard.

Mr Guy's first child, a daughter, had been born just 12 weeks earlier and he had doted on her, the baby's mother said.

Welsh pleaded guilty to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility.

He has received a "discretionary" life sentence, and must serve a minimum of 12 years in prison, less the 534 days spent on remand.
