A LOCAL MP donned a fluorescent jacket and grabbed his pole yesterday in a bid to recruit more lollipop people.
Steve Pound MP (Lab/Ealing North) is trying to persuade more people to take up the odd-job which requires just two hours work a day, as numbers in the borough are dwindling.
He took to the streets with Susan Samuel, a traffic officer at Ealing Council, and helped kids from Costons and Edward Betham Primary Schools to get home safely.
Mr Pound said: “I learned so much from the whole experience. I never realised quite how difficult a job it actually is.
“It looks very simple but actually it is very tricky, but incredibly rewarding.
“At the moment there are 11 vacancies for these roles in Ealing, and I hope we can get them filled soon as they are vital to our children’s safety.”
