Pair wanted over 'vicious' attack

POLICE are hunting two people who pushed a man to the ground and robbed him while he was carrying his granddaughter.

The pair, a man and woman, approached the 57-year-old who had just taken money out from a cash point, as he carried the 18-month-old girl down Greenford Avenue, Southall, at around 5pm on Sunday, July 6.

As he walked away from the ATM, he was pushed over by one of the pair, and the other grabbed the child from his arms and dumped her on the ground beside him.

While the victim was trying to reach the child, one of the attackers reached into his shirt pocket, where he had just put the cash, and grabbed it from him.

The victim was able to snatch some of the money from the suspect's hand, before they ran away into Punjab Lane, off Southall Broadway.

DC Lorraine Davies, of Ealing Police, said: "This was a particularly vicious unprovoked attack on an innocent member of the community.

"I am horrified at the total disregard the suspects have shown for the safety of the child, and am thankful that she did not suffer any lasting injuries as a result of her ordeal."

Both suspects were white, and the man is described as 6ft tall, with short dark brown hair and wearing dark clothing, and the woman is 5ft 6ins, with untidy blonde hair and wearing a grey jumper and faded blue jeans.

Anyone with information can contact Ealing Police on 0208 721 7040, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
