Re: Congestion charging
In his letter of June 27 Cllr Richard Barnes invites his constituents to say whether they want him to continue with his opposition to a congestion charge around Heathrow or to support it.
Is this the start of major change in the Conservatives' thinking on transport ?
Until now, it seems to have been Conservative policy to oppose almost any measure that is intended to address our traffic problems.
Their legal proceedings to prevent congestion charging in central London and their opposition to the Uxbridge Road tram are just two examples.
Ealing Green Party urges Cllr Barnes to support the congestion charge.
If London's traffic problems are to be solved, we must reduce the number of cars on the streets.
The only proposal on the table which will achieve this is the congestion charge.
