Election news: LABOUR councillors suffered some losses at the polls on Thursday but still came away with the seats needed to keep them in power.

Out of 69 council seats, Labour held 48, the Conservative Party increased their total by one to 17 and Liberal Democrats, also by one, to four.

However, in the previous council election, when there were 25 wards and 71 councillors, Labour had 52 seats, Tories, 16, and Lib Dems, just three.

This means Labour returns to power in Ealing Town Hall after 32 per cent of the eligible electorate voted.

Councillor John Cudmore, Labour leader at Ealing Council, said: "This is a tremendous achievement for Labour in Ealing. We have achieved one of the best results for Labour across London and are into a record-breaking third term in administration. "

A Tory Group spokesman said: "We have won a net increase of one seat while Labour has lost four so we are moving in the right direction. "
