Brilliant curry in Southall

A FAMILY run Southall curry house has won one of the most prestigious awards in the industry, beating off competition from thousands of other restaurants in the process.

The Brilliant in Western Road, Southall, was named as the best restaurant in Greater London and suburbs at the British Curry Awards at the Grosvenor House hotel in Park Lane.

Dipna Anand, 23, who runs the restaurant with her father Gulu, 52, and brother Shanker, 21, told the Ealing Times today: "It's fantastic, our biggest achievement so far and totally unexpected.

"This award is really special because you have to be nominated by customers and they then send mystery diners to test the food.

"When our name was read out we were in complete shock. I was so emotional when we collected it all I could barely speak on the microphone."

Only ten of the 10,000 curry restaurants in the UK were given awards at the ceremony, hosted by TV presenter Chris Tarrant, who was arrested in a Nottingham curry house for throwing a spoon at another diner earlier this year.

Dipna was also keen to pay tribute to the restaurant's head chef, Jasvinderjit Singh.

She said: "Chef said last year he was going to work hard to make sure we won a best in Britain award, and when I told him we had won it he was so chuffed.

"It's things like this that keep us going."
